TYPES OF SERVICES

We have also prepared letters and memoranda (or provided advice in meetings) on:

describing collections which have been used by clients in their own efforts to sell collections or place them in appropriate institutions
documenting collections (inventory, photography, videotaping, etc.);
preparation of a collection for sale; and the pros and cons of methods of sale;
avenues of donation (however, as appraisers, we cannot represent clients to institutions to which they are considering donating).

We have twice coordinated multi-appraiser projects (bringing in other specialist-appraisers).

APPRAISALS OF

Works in most scholarly fields-- arts and literature, history, philosophy, the social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, and the physical sciences.

Art, Artifacts, Objects-- on a more selective basis. We have appraised oil paintings, works of art on paper, an 18^th century globe, maps, aerial photographs, realia on various types.

Archives-- while they've typically included some of the above, archives we've appraised have been comprised chiefly of manuscripts, typescripts, diaries, letters, working files, etc.

APPRAISALS BIG & SMALL, SPECIALIZED & GENERAL

We have appraised family/household libraries with diverse books.
We have appraised collections focused on coptic/meroitic studies, on railroad history, explosives, an artist's archive, the archive of a theater company, etc.

APPRAISALS FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES

We have done 37 appraisals directly involving insurance matters relating to books, manuscripts, and ephemera.
Of the 37 appraisals: 17 were performed for 9 different libraries, museums, or historical societies--5 when the institution was lending one or more special items, 11 when the institution was newly insuring or updating their insurance coverage, and 1 which involved a claim.
Of the 37 appraisals: 4 were performed for 4 different insurance companies that had claims on a policy they issued.
Of the 37 appraisals: 16 were performed for private individuals--7 for persons making a claim with their insurer and 9 for persons newly insuring their collections.
Of the 37 appraisals: 12 involved claims arising from loss; from water damage from leaks (6), from theft (5), and from a hurricane (1).
